What Your Feet Want for the Holidays

If your feet could make a wish list what would be on it? At Central Jersey Ankle & Foot Care Specialists we have some ideas of what your feet would request if they wrote a letter to Santa. They include:

New Shoes: at the top of your feet’s wish list is a pair of new shoes that fit properly. Get your feet professionally measured to get the right size. Foot size changes over time and many people are hurting their feet by wearing shoes that are too small. Look for sturdy construction, a roomy toe box (to avoid squeezing toes and worsening bunions or risk of ingrown toenails) and good support for arch and ankles. Choose a natural material that breathes and allows for air circulation.

Good Socks: at this time of the year keeping feet warm is a top priority. Good quality, warm socks make a great gift for your feet. In addition, look for the kind of socks that wick moisture away from your feet. Whether you’re a skier, snowboarder or just a mall walker, activity can make your feet sweat and prolonged periods of time in damp socks can increase your risk of fungal infections. So, get your feet a couple of pairs so you can change them when you notice they’re damp.

Luscious Moisturizer: painful heel fissures and annoying, itchy dry skin can be avoided by using an extra emollient lotion or cream on your feet daily. Massage into your feet at the end of the day for a foot treat that feels good and helps keep skin moisturized.

A Good Foot Care Regimen: sometimes the best gifts are free. One of the greatest gifts you can give your feet is a care routine to protect the health of your feet. This should include daily washing, drying and moisturizing as well as keeping nails trimmed straight across with no rough edges. Regularly inspecting your feet and reporting any abnormalities in color, shape, size or sensation to our podiatrists, Dr. Christopher J. Mullin or Dr. Jessica A. Addeo will be the greatest gift of all and help ensure many years of an active life. Contact our Aberdeen office today by calling: 732-566-2841.
