Getting Relief from Heel Pain

Heel pain makes it virtually impossible to comfortably do the most basic daily tasks and it is one of the most common complaints that patients bring to us here at Central Jersey Ankle & Foot Care.  Heel pain has many possible causes, including: stress fractures, arthritis, nerve irritation, cysts, tendonitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy, and plantar fasciitis. Getting a prompt and accurate diagnosis is the first step in getting relief.

What’s Causing the Pain?

The first step in getting relief from your heel pain is finding out what the source is. Our board certified podiatrists, Dr. Christopher J. Mullin and Dr. Jessica A. Addeo are experts in diagnosis and treatment of heel pain. Our foot doctors will perform a thorough exam of the foot and take a detailed medical history. X-rays or other diagnostic tests may be ordered and can be done in our Aberdeen, NJ office to get a more complete view of your heel problem.

Treatment

Once the podiatrist diagnoses your heel pain, a treatment plan can be formulated. While patients are sometimes worried to go to the foot doctor because they fear their condition will require surgery, there are many non-surgical treatment options available depending on your condition including:

  • Icing your heel to reduce pain and inflammation
  • A regimen of stretching exercises
  • Modifications in type of footwear you use and/or padding or inserts strategically placed in footwear to relieve pressure and pain
  • Custom orthotics for more specific positioning of the foot
  • Anti-inflammatory medications for pain relief
  • Physical therapy

Surgery is a last resort in cases where patients don’t respond to any of the above treatments. At  Central Jersey Ankle & Foot Care our podiatrists are experienced surgeons dedicated to providing you with the leading edge procedures and the highest standard of foot care available in Monmouth County. Why continue to suffer from debilitating heel pain? Call or our office at 732-566-2841 or make an appointment online  to see one of our podiatrists today.
