Don’t Hide Your Toes Due to Fungal Nails

One of the signs of a fungal nail infection is the change in the appearance of the nail. Toenails darken and become discolored. They may also thicken or become brittle and crumbly at the edges. Not exactly what you want showing in your open-toed shoes or sandals. At Central Jersey Ankle & Foot Care we offer a cosmetic nail restoration service called Keryflex that will make your nail look completely normal while still allowing healing to take place.

The Keryflex Process

Our podiatrists, Dr. Christopher J. Mullin, Dr. Jessica A. Addeo and Dr. Rajan Patel can remake your nail in about 15 minutes in our Aberdeen office. Here’s how it works:

  • Affected nail is cleaned and debrided.
  •  A special bonding agent is brushed onto the nail bed and plate.
  • Resin is applied, then shaped and sculpted to fit the contour of your nail.
  • An ultraviolet light is applied to the toenail for two minutes, causing the resin to harden.
  • Nail is buffed to a smooth finish.

Your “New” Nail

Nails restored with the Keryflex system are strong and can be polished with regular nail polish. Nail polish remover will not harm the finish. Keryflex treatment needs to be repeated as your nail grows out, usually every 6-8 weeks.

Keryflex is safe. Each kit is for one individual application to prevent risk of infection. To date, no adverse affects have been reported. Keryflex will not interfere with the treatment your doctor has prescribed for your fungal nail. The nail will continue to heal but look normal, just like your other nails.

If you would like to learn more about this cosmetic service or have other questions about the health of your toenails, make an appointment at our Aberdeen office by calling: 732-566-2841.
